Tropper introduces us to Silver, the former drummer of a one hit wonder band, now relegated to playing at weekend weddings
to earn his keep. His wife, Denise, left him long ago, and his lack of
initiative and emotional stagnancy alienated his young daughter, Casey.
Now, Silver finds himself with a potentially fatal heart condition -- but he has to decide if he wants to have the surgery and live, or just lay down and die. At the same time, his daughter Casey, now a young woman, faces a conflict all her own and chooses to seek out Silver before anyone else.
This is a novel about family, and how that word can mean many things. There is plenty of romance, conflict, and wry humor to keep you turning the pages, eager to find out what happens. I find that Tropper's style and storytelling ability will appeal to most readers. He really is quite talented.
As with his previous novel, the author brings us a main character who is not hero material -- just a regular guy trying to makethings work day to day. And that what makes Silver's character, much as you would like to smack him sometimes, so appealing!
